Photographing 27 cats and kittens in 3 hours

Last weekend I was thrilled to do my 2nd photo shoot for H.E.L.P. (Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets).   This group is a volunteer based not-for-profit organization who fosters cats, dogs and of course kittens and puppies in their homes.  They adopt the animals out at the local PetSmart and through  adoption events like the one last Saturday.

I you are interested in finding a new furry friend to bring into your family call HELP at 877-364-2286 or check out their website at http://www.helpinganimals.org/.

Being spring/summer there were quite a few young cats/kittens at the event this month.   Every one of them is full of personality.   Some are shy, some are curious, some are playful and some just wanted a nap.   The most curious loved playing with the cat toys while I was snapping away and one little guy wanted to see what was inside the lens of my camera.

Here are some of the cats I got to meet and photograph.  Of course I’m tempted to post them all but I’ll restrain myself.

EVA WALL-E & SIMON
Who can resist 3 5 week old kittens.   These little guys are being bottle fed by their foster mom.   They go by Simon, Eva and Wall-E.   They weren’t camera shy in the least!

Young High5 got her name because if you put your hand up she will give you a high 5 with her paw.  She was too curious about all the activity to do it for me but her personality shined.   She even allowed her foster mom to dress her up for her photographic debut.

Orange Tigers Abound

There were several orange tabby cats.  I wrote down their names as I shot the photos but at one point we did several siblings in a row and it was very hard to tell who was who during post processing.

The Out-takesThese speak for themselves

Tammy – “You said it was ok to play with this thing”

Adopted

These guys were a few of the lucky ones who got to go home with a new family.

Edward

At the end of the day one last furball came over.   This is Rosie.  She is one of the lucky kitties that got to home to a new family this day.  We put her down on the table and I got 3 photos.  Here is the first…

The other 2 photos were of her back side as she went streaking away.  She is fast – probably one of the fast cats I’ve seen – and she only has 3 legs.  She lost one of her back legs to an infection.   She is now very healthy and has a new home.

Don’t Miss

I’m going to stop here but check out all the cats at http://www.pawprintspix.com/help-2010-july

Don’t miss Anna (mama), Ben & Jerry,  Berny, Brandon, Bunny, Jack & Jill, MacKinzie, Nyjer, Tammy & Tara and Wilbur
