Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point Indiana
Lions and Tigers and Cameras – OH MY!!!!
I started this post in Sept. Good intentions and a busy life don’t always mesh.
Well the photo club made a trip down to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in central Indiana.
Focus ======= to get some close ups with good ambient lighting.
Challenge === the enclosures provide a lot of shade for the cats so the lighting was very diffused and the cats were often in shadow.
Most of the cats came to the center sick and starving. The good folks at the center nursed them back to health. They are now healthy and well cared for. They seem to love the attention they get – many of the cougars will come up to the fence and purr. Yes some big cat species purr. Cougars do purr but lions and tigers do not. Tigers make a sound called chuffing – i’m not sure how to describe it. And of course the lions roar.
We were able to put the lens of the camera right up onto the fence in order to blur it out. The guide would call to the cat to get his/her attention. He told us that if he said back away do it quickly - he was watching the cats to make sure they weren’t going to charge the fence – and some of them did. But most of them just lazed around and watched us from a distance.
And they talked to us….
Finally – it was a successful trip and I got some fun shots.
